Who attends Arkansas' Two-Year Colleges?
Two-year colleges provide a first chance for many students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend college. And, for adults who must work and go to school, the two-year colleges offer flexible class schedules, evening classes, and distance education classes.
Currently, our two-year colleges serve more than 49,000 credit students across the state. In addition, approximately 50,000 residents are continuing their education and upgrading skills in our WorkForce Training program and other non-credit courses.
- The average student is 27 years old.
- Over 64 percent of the students are female.
- Approximately 42 percent of the students are over age 25.
- The percentage of African American students attending two-year colleges in Arkansas is 22.7.
Most students work part-time. Many students work full-time and attend classes at night, on the weekend, or through distance education.
